About DrivenDogs’ Founder Kate Moureaux

Kate Moureaux has been a nationally known competitor and trainer since the mid 1990's. She began teaching for Contact Point Agility Center in 1999; however in 2004 Kate made the big leap and founded DrivenDogs. Additionally, in 2008 Kate also became certified as a USDAA Judge.

Kate is born and raised in Southern California. She began competing in dog agility in 1992, at the age of six years old. Kate's first agility dog was her grandmother's Springer Spaniel, "Alex". They competed with both the American Kennel Club and United States Dog Agility Association until Alex retired due to old age. Kate’s second agility dog, Heisey, a Shetland Sheepdog, had numerous accomplishments with both the AKC and USDAA, including the first Junior Handler handled dog to earn a MACh and MACh2 titles. Next came Quick, Kate's first Border Collie and the matriarch of Excel Border Collies, when Kate was just 13 years old. In addition to winning AKC's 2006 National Agility Championship, Quick was also a member of the 2006 & 2008 IFCS World Agility Championships team representing the United States. Kate currently has two fifteen year old Border Collies (Driven and Jammer), eleven year old Border Collie (Power), eight year old Border Collie (Smart), three year old Border Collie (Great), and baby Border Collie (Prize).

Most recently, Kate and Driven won the Performance Versatility Pairs Finals at the 2011 USDAA World Agility Championships. Driven in now retired from competition.

At the 2017 AKC Nationals Agility Championships, Power made her first AKC Preferred NAC Finals, with a 5th place finish.

Smart (Driven daughter - 12/30/2009) has lived up to her name since day one! At only 21 months old, Smart became a Performance Speed Jumping finalist at the 2011 USDAA National Championships! In May 2014, following in her mother’s (and grandmother’s) footsteps, Smart competed at the 2014 IFCS World Championships in the Netherlands, having multiple Top 10 placements. At the 2015 USDAA Nationals, Smart won the USDAA Grand Prix and Steeplechase 18” Finals. Following an excellent showing at the 2015 USDAA Nationals and US Open, Smart has been selected to compete on the 2016 IFCS and WAO World Teams, where the United States WAO team won the Gold Medal for the Team competition. In March 2016, won the 2016 AKC National Agility Championships 16” division. This makes Smart the third generation of Kate's Border Collies to win the AKC National Agility Championships.

Great (Power daughter - 05/14/2014) has been focusing on her Rally career! Great LOVES Rally and Obedience, and has really excelled, despite Kate being green to the sport of Rally.  Great competed at her first AKC National Rally Championship in March 2017, where she WON the Novice Division! Great is also qualified for the 2018 AKC Rally National Championship. As for agility, Great is just beginning her career. She is almost qualified for the 2018 USDAA Nationals, and continues to improve!

Prize (Smart daughter - 01/15/2017) is the newest to the DrivenDogs/Excel family. Prize is fourth generation of Kate's Border Collie line. Prize has started her agility foundation training, and is a keen and eager worker. She is going to have some big shoes to fill.

Jammer (Quick son - 01/16/2003), became a welcome addition back to the DrivenDogs/Excel family in June of 2010. With Kate, Jammer has completed his ADCh-Gold/Lifetime-Gold titles, and is enjoying agility! Since coming back to Kate, Jammer has won multiple USDAA Regional Championships, and competed in several USDAA National Agility Championships Finals. Jammer in now retired from competition.

Along with her own dogs, Kate has also shown a number of dogs for clients. These dogs help to illustrate Kate's ability to work with a variety of dog breeds, as a trainer and handler. Kate’s most notable client dog accomplishments include winning the 2010 AKC Agility Invitational 20" division with Scarlett (Labrador - MACH2 Hirsch's Gone With The Wind CD RN XF; Owned by Elisa & Robin Hirsch).

Although Kate has owned, trained, and loved Border Collies for nearly 20 years, in 2009, Kate produced her first Excel Border Collies litter. For more on Excel Border Collies, please visit our website: www.excelbordercollies.com
