Kate began participating in dog sports in 1992, at the age of 6 years old. Growing up in agility helped to develop Kate's keen understanding of dog behavior and training. Since founding DrivenDogs Agility in 2004, she has been able to share her knowledge and insights with countless other dog lovers and agility competitors. In addition to operating DrivenDogs Agility, Kate also became certified as a USDAA judge in 2008.
Kate firmly believes that both the dog’s solid understanding of behaviors, plus training consistency, are key to excelling in a dog training partnership. Therefore, Kate’s training philosophy is to train a solid foundation, with consistent cues the dog can trust. Kate focuses on positive reinforcement and making sure the dog enjoys their job. As an agility handling instructor and coach, Kate helps her students to be clear and consistent with their handling cues, as well as honing their mental game. Kate also has an excellent eye when training, which allows her capture positive behaviors, as well as prevent undesired ones.
Over the years, Kate has won numerous Regional and National events, as well as Championship and Lifetime titles. Kate’s proudest accomplishment is winning the American Kennel Club’s National Agility Championship on three separate occasions, with three different dogs (Quick, Driven, and Smart). These three dog are Grandmother, Mother, and Daughter, which makes this accomplishment even more incredible. All three dogs were bred, trained, and handled by Kate Moureaux. This has never been accomplished previously, and is very unlikely to be repeated.
In additional to Kate’s three AKC National Agility Championship wins, she is also an: AKC Agility Invitational Champion, five-time USDAA National Champion, five-time IFCS World Team member, and three-time WAO World Team member.
Outside of Agility, Kate has titled her dogs in Rally, Obedience, and Herding. Most notably, in 2017 Kate and Great won the American Kennel Club’s Rally National Championship's Novice division. This was Kate’s first time winning a National Championship in a sport outside of Agility.
Since returning to Agility competition post-Covid, Kate has been selected to compete at the World Agility Open in 2022 (Wildcard) and 2023 (Team USA) with her Border Collie, Prize.
